Dompu was trained as a photographer by his mother Maria Schmid-Billhardt from 1951 to 1954 and attended the College of Applied Arts in Magdeburg until 1957. Was a work photographer in lignite mines and mines. Grosskayna biscuit factory 1957-1958, he qualified as master of photography and publisher photographer at the postcard publishing house Bild und Heimat in Reichenbach in Vogtland until 1959. From 5 1959 to 1963, he completed his studies at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) in Leipzig with a degree as a qualified photographer/photo designer.
